Business Loan Connection is Onondaga County’s Small Business Funding Source

Onondaga County sits in the heart of New York state. It has a population of nearly 470,000 hard-working people, and tens-of-thousands of local businesses. At last count, over 11,700 establishments were scattered across the county, generating revenue and jobs. The number of individuals who own and operate a business alone is incredibly high, with nearly 27,000 additional non-employer enterprises in Onondaga County as well. It’s small businesses like these that Business Loan Connection and its credit union partners are glad to help, with custom small business funding options, specially designed for the individuals and communities we serve.

The only city in Onondaga County is Syracuse. It’s the county seat and is home to about one-third of the county’s residents.  Many large cities are within a matter of hours of Syracuse, including New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, Pittsburgh, Montreal, and Toronto. Downtown Syracuse, itself, is a major hub of activity, employing more than 30,000 people. Industry in Syracuse is much like the rest of the nation, with healthcare and manufacturing accounting for a large portion of jobs, though the area has become more heavily-involved in computers and electronics in recent years. Syracuse University, with a student base over 21,000, is naturally one of the area’s largest employers as well.

Despite the fact that this makes it a “college town,” with all the trimmings, such as cultural activities and nightlife, it has also been named by Forbes Magazine as one of the best places in the country to raise a family. This may be in part because the city has put forth great effort to maintain numerous parks, and offers beautiful creekside trails throughout. History has also been preserved, and can be found at the Salt Museum, Erie Canal Museum, and the Landmark Theatre, among other places. The Museum of Science and Technology, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, and mega mall Destiny USA are also very popular among residents and tourists alike.

Syracuse Metro

Clay, Salina, Manlius, Cicero, and DeWitt are some of the major towns in the Syracuse metropolitan area, bringing more than 180,000 people into the region. Camillus, Onondaga, Lysander, Geddes, and Van Buren also offer quick access to the area, though residents receive the benefits of quieter, suburban and rural life, too. Because the city is so robust, the Census Bureau actually includes Madison and Oswego Counties, as well as all of Onondaga County, in their totals for Syracuse metro. However, around 70 percent of the total population for all three counties resides in the latter.
